Showing Versus Telling ... together is better.

So today's reading on the process of writing made a very good point.

Most books I've read on writing say that you should "show" your readers whats happening in the story and not "tell" them, but today I read that you should do both because showing pulls the reader more into the world of the story whereas telling moves the action forward and keeps up a certain pace to the story.

That makes so much more sense to me. You have to both "show and tell" the reader, not just one or the other. Stories must have the proper pacing as well.

The current book I'm reading which says this is "Writing Magic" by Gail Carson Levine.

Thank you most Hartly,
